THE DAT MOI STORY: A Story of Resilience, Sacrifice, and New Beginnings
Dat Moi Market is more than just a business—it is a story of resilience, sacrifice, and new beginnings built across generations.
Before immigrating to the United States, the family was deeply connected to the fishing industry in Southeast Asia, where fishing and supporting local fishermen were central to their way of life. During the aftermath of war in the mid-1970s, the family made the difficult decision to flee their homeland by boat in search of safety and opportunity. Along the journey, their first child was born at sea, symbolizing hope and survival during one of the most uncertain moments of their lives.
After spending time in refugee camps, the family eventually arrived in the United States with very little, but with determination to rebuild. They worked tirelessly in various trades and businesses while raising their children and slowly creating a new life through perseverance, sacrifice, and hard work. Years later, those efforts became the foundation of Dat Moi Market, a business rooted in community, culture, and resilience.
The name “Dat Moi” translates to “new land” or “new ground,” representing the family’s journey of starting over in an unfamiliar place and building a future from the ground up. Today, Dat Moi Market stands not only as a business, but as a reflection of perseverance, opportunity, and the enduring strength of family and community.
